Bringing science and action together to protect and restore nature
AVARI Nature Initiative is a collaborative action platform dedicated to conserving biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, and strengthening ecological resilience. By combining scientific knowledge, field-based approaches, local context, and multi-stakeholder collaboration, the initiative transforms environmental knowledge and commitments into tangible actions that protect nature, recover ecosystem functions, and create lasting benefits for biodiversity and the environment.
Program Activities
- Biodiversity Conservation Action — science-based initiatives to protect species, habitats, and areas of ecological importance through targeted and locally relevant conservation actions.
- Ecosystem Restoration & Rehabilitation — restoration and rehabilitation of degraded terrestrial, freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems to recover ecological condition, function, connectivity, and resilience.
- Coastal & Marine Conservation — conservation and restoration initiatives focusing on mangroves, seagrass ecosystems, coral reefs, coastal habitats, and marine biodiversity.
- Habitat & Species Conservation — targeted actions for priority species and habitats through habitat enhancement, species protection, ecological monitoring, and collaborative conservation.
- Nature-Based Solutions — application of nature-based approaches to address environmental and climate-related challenges while generating benefits for biodiversity, ecosystem resilience, and human well-being.
- Biodiversity Monitoring & Citizen Science — participatory monitoring initiatives that engage researchers, students, communities, and other stakeholders in observing, documenting, and understanding biodiversity and ecosystem change.
- Conservation Partnership & Collaborative Action — development of partnerships with communities, universities, government institutions, businesses, conservation organizations, and other stakeholders to enable sustained and scalable action for nature.
